Tyre Bridge Road speed bumps: Mayor Dedi Thomas and Public Works Superintendent Tyler Stokes announced speed bumps have been delivered to the city and will be installed this week on Tyre Bridge Road. (See related story.)
Georgia Forestry Unit: Mayor Dedi Thomas announced that Patterson now owns the old Georgia Forestry Commission Unit on Main Street (Georgia Highway 32). (See related story.)
Peach Avenue and Gardner Street complaints: Residents Earl “Frog” Echols and Ray Douberly addressed the council about speeding concerns on Peach Avenue and Gardner Streets. Douberly also asked the council to clean up Patterson, noting several unkempt items in town. (See related story.)
Department reports: Police Chief Nick Strickland gave the police report. Dixon reported the department responded to 25 calls in July, including 21 calls for service. The department made two traffic stops and issued a citation and investigated two accidents. Chief Strickland also announced he has completed certification as an instructor and can do in-house training for Patterson Police Department and neighboring law enforcement agencies in the area. Public Works Superintendent Tyler Stokes reported renovations and improvements are continuing at the Patterson City Park. He also noted the public works department is conducting maintenance on ditches to prepare for hurricane season. The department also flushed fire hydrants during the month. Stokes also reported the fire department responded to three fire calls and two medical calls during the month of July. City Clerk Laura Kate Dixon announced the City of Patterson will host the Chamber of Commerce’s Business After Hours from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Eagle Station.
Work session: The city council will hold a work session at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, August 21, at Eagle Station. Items to be discussed at the work session include water and sewer rates, compensation for firefighters, Echols request for speed bumps on Peach Avenue and Douberly’s request for improvements on Gardner Street and around town.
Next meeting: The next regular monthly meeting will be at 5 p.m. Thursday, September 11, also at Eagle Station.
