Harris versus Brooks for Blackshear Mayor

Gena Harris will challenge Incumbent Keith Brooks for Mayor of Blackshear in this year’s municipal election.

Harris, owner of a local gym, qualified Monday for the office.

Brooks also qualified to run for another term Monday, setting up the first contested race of the cycle.

Dexter Britton qualified to run for district 4 on the Blackshear City Council, etting up a possible contested race with incumbent Theodore Mackey. Mackey has said he plans to run for re-election, but had not qualified as of The Times’ deadline Monday.

Blackshear voters will elect a mayor and three council seats in this year’s municipal election.

The district three seat held by Dr. Corey Lesseig and the district five seat held by Chuck Ward are both also up for election this year. Neither had qualified by press time. Ward has indicated he won’t run again.

Blackshear’s qualifying fee for mayor is $180 and its qualifying fee for three city council seats at $72.

The election will be held Tuesday, November
