Ware County property owners will get a break in taxes when the Waycross City Commission, Ware County School Board and Ware County Commission with the approval of their respective proposed millage rates in the coming week.
The City Commission will vote on its proposed rate of 8.555 following a public hearing today (Wednesday, August 20) at 5 p.m. in City Hall.
The Ware School Board votes on its proposed 13.730 rate at a called meeting at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 21 at 1301 Bailey Street.
The Ware Commission will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 27 in Suite 201 of the Administration Building, 305 Oak Street, to consider its proposal of 11.502.
The proposed rates of the three governing bodies represents a drop in their rates from last year.
The City’s proposal represents a drop of .193 mils or 2.49 percent less in tax revenue ($103,384) over last year’s 8.748 rate. The city is expected to realize $4.048 million in maintenance and operation taxes compared to $4.151 million in 2024.
The Ware School Board’s rate is .270 less than last year’s 14.000 mark for a decrease of $226,161 or 1.38 percent.
The schools expect to have $16.152 million compared to $16.378 in 2024.
Ware County’s presented rate is .234 less than last year’s 11.773 figure for a decrease of $182,389 or 1.37 percent. The county expects to realize $13.272 million from its millage.
Each of the three meetings is opened to the public.
