Community blood drive has two major sponsors

It’s expected the blood-giving public will continue to add to the success of calendar year 2025 with regard to the collection of life-saving blood when the Red Cross stages its monthly Waycross blood drive Monday, August 25.

“We’ve really had a good year to date and we’re confident the people will keep giving as the summer continues,” said Gary Griffin, one of the Waycross Area Blood Drive Volunteers who host each drive at the Waycross Exchange Club Fairgrounds, 2401 Knight Avenue.

The hours of Monday’s drive are 10 a.m. through 6 p.m.

“We’ve consistently been getting well over 100 donations, including in July when we totaled 137,” said Griffin. “It was a great month. Usually the summer months are down months.”

He said the corporate prize money helped draw donors in July, and he thanked Locomotive Specialist for granting every single donor a cash door prize.

Miles-Odum Funeral Home, the August sponsor, is making the same guarantee. All donors will win cash.

A grand door prize is a $50 bill. All other donors will take home a lesser amount of cash.

“Miles-Odum has been faithful to sponsor our August drives for the past three years,” Griffin said.

Sanders Honey Company is a new blood drive sponsor this month, giving gift cards to random donors.

Longtime sponsor Breezy’s Boutique also will present gift cards to lucky donors.

The Waycross community drive on the fourth Monday of each month rates as the most productive in the state.

The ranking has held for several years running.
