WAYCROSS — Mr. Marshall Grant Monk, 86, of Waycross, died Sunday afternoon, August 10, 2025 at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born in St. Augustine, Fla., to the late Roy D. Monk, Sr., and Laura Stratton Monk Lee. He spent his youthful years growing up in Jacksonville, Fla., and graduating from Andrew Jackson High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served for three years in the 101st Airborne Division.
After his honorable discharge, Monk worked for the 3M Company and Remington Rand/Univac Company in management positions. It was during this time that he was transferred to Miami, Fla. He attended Miami/Dade Community College and the University of Miami where he studied business management. He then moved to Ware County to build his brother’s house and start his construction business.
Monk fell in love with Ware County and permanently located there in 1972. He started three business, serving as President for RonRanCo Homes, which specialized in remodeling, Monk Construction Company, specializing in residential and commercial construction, and Marshall Monk and Associates, Inc., which specialized in government consulting. He was passionate and instrumental in the revitalization of Downtown Waycross.
Monk found time to enjoy coaching pee-wee and midget football for Memorial Drive Elementary School, and football, baseball, and basketball for Crawford Street Elementary School. He served eight years as a Ware County Commissioner before retiring to enjoy his family, grandchildren, golfing and fishing.
Along with his parents, Monk was also preceded in death by his eldest son, Ronald Alan “Ron” Monk; three brothers, Roy Monk, Jr., David Monk, and Donald Monk, and one sister, Virginia Davis.
Monk is survived by his wife, Jeanie Monk of Waycross; his son, Randall Wayne Monk (Mary) of Appling, Ga,; his daughter, Katy Michelle Harris (Toby) of Blackshear; daughter-in-law Darlene Monk James; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one greatgreat grandson; one brother, Gene Monk (Rose) of Jacksonville; one sister, Merle Rewis of Crescent City, Fla.; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the hospice nurses and personal caregivers whose dedication and compassion brought comfort during his last few years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Georgia Hospice

A memorial service was held on Saturday in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. An internment will take place at a later date in Jacksonville National Cemetery.
