WAYCROSS — David Thomas Hutcheson, 77, of Waycross died Wednesday afternoon, August 13, 2025, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House after an extended illness.
Hutcheson was born in Lyons, Ga., to the late
Hutcheson
John Clifford Carraway and Lucy Ray Hutcheson and made Waycross his home for most of his life. He graduated from Appling County High School and went on to serve his country faithfully in the United States Army as a heavy equipment operator with the Army Corp. of Engineers during Vietnam. He later retired from AT&T after 33 years as a facility technician.
Mr. Hutcheson was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Waycross 1st Ward where he served in many different capacities throughout the years. He was a former bishop, high councilman, ward clerk and a dedicated executive assistant. He also volunteered his time helping Boy Scout Troop 309. He enjoyed fishing and especially his trips with family and friends to Hontoon Landing in DeLand, Fla.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Frances “Jean” Gray Hutcheson.
Hutcheson is survived by his wife who he married in May 8, 2013; Mary Alice Hutcheson of Waycross; three children, Rebecca Hall, husband Matt, of Waycross, Stephen Hutcheson, wife Mary Anne, of Blackshear, and Laura Lott, husband De, of Hahira; three stepchildren, Jeff Simmons, wife Shellie, of Baxley, Angie Vautrot, husband Frank, of Church Point, La; and Jennifer Smiley of Baxley; his grandchildren, Wynn Hall, wife Moriah, Jenny Hall, Nicholas Hall, Spencer Hutcheson, Bryson Hutcheson, Ansley Hutcheson, Mason Hutcheson, Caden Hutcheson, Mary Hannah Lott, Lainee Lott, Harper Lott, Haley Branch, husband Grayson, Megan Higginbotham, husband Zach, Trey Vautrot, wife MaKenzie, Taylor Vautrot, Natalie Smiley, ad Rylan Smiley; a great grandchild, Elijah Gray Branch; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service was held Saturday, August 16 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery.
AT&T Facility Technicians served as honorary pallbearers.
