Food Lions Feeds charitable foundation is partnering with the Waycross community organization Charlie Giving Back in its effort to help alleviate food insecurity in the area.
The collaboration will focus on providing essential food resources for families and individuals facing hunger in communities across Southeast Georgia.
Charlie Giving Back has provided food and occasionally clothing and person care items on a near monthly basis for a number of years to at least 300 families.
The free giveaways usually are held the last weekend of the month at E.E. Moore Park.
This month’s event will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 30.
“We’re proud to partner with Charlie Giving Back and contribute to their vital work in addressing food insecurity in our communities,” a Food Lion spokesperson said last week in announcing the partnership.
By working together, more families can have access to nutritious food and build a stronger, healthier Georgia for everyone.”
The partnership comes at a crucial time when demand for food assistance is increasing in communities across the state due to a variety of factors like cuts in federal funding and rising costs of food.
Many Georgians are relying on food banks, free kitchens, and shelters more than ever before.
Food Lion’s foundation focuses on fighting hunger by proving grants to organizations combating food insecurity in their community.
