Dr. Derrell Rentz

JESUP — Dr. Derrell Rentz, 83, of Jesup, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2025 under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.

The Duval County, Fla. native and U.S. Air Force Veteran had lived in Wayne County since 2002. He was a member and former pastor of Hickox Baptist Church in Brantley County and Red Hill Baptist Church in Wayne County.

Theology as well as a Doctorate of Religious Education and a Master’s Degree in Christian Counseling from Luther Rice Seminary College.

Dr. Rentz served the Lord in ministry through pastoring and counseling for over 50 years. A favorite hobby was reading.

His wife, Virginia Baxley Rentz, preceded him in death along with a daughter, Julie Agee, and a sister, Joyce Conner.

Survivors are three daughters, Sheryl (Dewayne) Herrin of Jesup, Kelley (David) Emig of Rogers, Ark., and Karen Lewis of Lynchburg, Va.; 20 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; two sisters, Debbie (Artie) Schlesinger of Long Island, N.Y., and Cindy (Carlos) Cortes of Charlotte, N.C.; two sons-inlaw, Ben Agee of Jesup and Kelly Lewis of Brunswick; several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 11 a.m., at Red Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Alan Morgan and Missionary Barbara Hill officiating.

Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be his family.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, August 22, 2025 at Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home.

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
