BCHS runners place 12th in 1st meet

Hayze Evans cops Top 20 finish to lead Herons squad

HAZLEHURST — Brantley County’s crosscountry teams logged 12th-place finishes in their first event of the season here Saturday in the Peach State Preview event hosted by Jeff Davis.

The host Lady Yellow Jackets won the August 16 14-team girls’ event finishing with 99 points. They were followed by Brunswick (117), West Laurens (118), Glynn Academy (119) and Lowndes (127) in the top five spots.

Rounding out the field were South Effingham (129), Coffee (129), Banks County (209), Camden County (245), Long County (271), Vidalia (290), Brantley County (301), Cook (304) and Berrien (328).

Lowndes easily won the 18-team boys’ division title with five runners finishing in the top 11 spots to score 38 points. The Vikings were followed by West Laurens (124), Jeff Davis (129), Glynn Academy (132), Camden County (144), Coffee (157), Vidalia (189), Toombs County (216), Long County (238) and Berrin (248) in the Top 10.

The rest of the field included Brunswick (281), Brantley County (292), Worth County (319), Ware County (385), Cook (411), South Effingham (411), East Laurens (427) and Telfair County (478).

Kiara Barnes led the Lady Herons five-member squad competing finish 40th in the field of 132 runners with a time of 25:51.31. The winning time was 19:57.60.

Barnes was followed by Avery Crews (50th, 26:22.53), Julia Miller (57th, 27:17.75), Chloe Jons (77th, 29:27.11) and Linzie Parker (94th, 30:51.39).

Hayze Evans topped the Herons eight-member contingent finishing 18th with a time of 18:51.25 in the field of 216 runners. The winning time was 15:50.91.

Following Evans were Grant Middleton (41st, 20:02.54), Brayden Middleton (62nd, 20:49.37), Max Herrin (72nd, 21:12.60), Evinrude Green (138th, 23:44.63), Carter Lentz (154th, 24:41.81), Jayden Simmons (174th, 26:23.43) and Cayson Lentz (195th, 28:42.10).

The next meet for BCHS is Thursday, August 28 at Ware County.
