Lady Herons lose 2 of 3 to Thomasville in first Region 1-A DI three-game series

Brantley County lost its Region 1-A opening series to Thomasville falling once at home and splitting a doubleheader.

The Lady Herons (1-4 overall, 1-2 region) dropped a tough 3-1 decision Tuesday, August 12 to visiting Thomasville (3-1, 1-0) in the opener of the three game series.

The two teams split the Thursday, August 14 twinbill in Thomasville. BCHS posted a 6-1 victory in eight innings in the opener with the Lady Bulldogs taking the nightcap, 7-6.

Brantley County faces region foe Berrien in its next three-game series. The Lady Herons hosted Game 1 Tuesday, August 19. Game 2 and Game 3 are part of a Thursday, August 21 doubleheader in Nashville.

Charlton County visits Monday, August 25 followed by a three-game series with Fitzgerald. BCHS will host the Lady Purple Hurricane Tuesday, August 26. Fitzgerald will host the Thursday, February 28 twinbill.

CANEY BAY — Thomasville plated three runs in the top of the sixth inning overcoming a 1-0 deficit to beat the Lady Herons.

BCHS’s Reagan Mclain (6+ IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 K, 0 BB, 2 HBP) carried a one-hit shutout into the sixth inning. The Lady Bulldogs banged out five hits in the frame.

A leadoff double and an infield hit were followed by a two-run double for a 2-1 Thomasville lead. An ensuing single drove in the third run of the inning for a two-run advantage at 3-1.

The Lady Herons threatened in the bottom of the inning. Lydia Anderson (1-for-3) legged out a bunt single down the third base line and stole second. She was thrown out at the plate on Rilee Story’s (1for-3) single to center two pitches later.

A leadoff single by Thomasville in the seventh ended Mclain’s outing. Chelsea Turner (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 K, 1 BB, 1 WP) escaped the inning after issuing a two-out walk.

BCHS was retired in order in the bottom of the seventh.

The Lady Herons, who were no-hit over the first three innings, broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth. Caiden Jones (1-for-3) lined a one out single. Sydnee Davis, who hit into a fielder’s choice two pitches later, sped around the bases to score on Turner’s (1-for-3) two-out double for a 1-0 advantage.

Game 2 Lady Herons.................6 Thomasville .......1, 8 Inn.

THOMASVILLE — A tworun double by Story in the top of the 8th inning broke a 1-all tie sparking BCHS to a fiverun uprising in getting the win.

Braylee Grant reached on an error to get the inning started for the Lady Herons. After Anderson (1-for-3) legged out a sacrifice bunt, both runners advanced on a passed ball. Story (1-for-3) followed one pitch later with a two-run double for a 3-1 lead.

After Davis drew a nine-pitch walk, Story stole third ahead of Turner’s (2-for-4) run-scoring single to left. Davis raced to third on the play with Turner advancing to second.

Jones’ sacrifice fly to center scored Davis for a 5-1 advantage. Mclain’s (1-for-4) ensuing first-pitch single plated courtesy runner K. Flowers with the final run and a five-run cushion Turner (8 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 K, 1 BB, 1 WP) retired the Lady Bulldogs in order in the bottom of the inning for the complete game.

Thomasville broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth pushing home a run. The Lady Bulldogs opened the inning with consecutive singles with the lead runner gunned down at third.

The trail runner advanced to second on the play, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a groundout.

BCHS got the run back in the in the top of the sixth. Story was hit by a pitch and stole second ahead of Davis getting hit. After both runners moved up on a passed ball, Turner lifted a sacrifice fly to center scoring Story to tie the game at 1-apiece.

Game 3 Thomasville ................................7 Lady Herons ...............................6

THOMASVILLE — A one-out error in the bottom of the seventh inning allowed the Lady Bulldogs to score the winning run from second base escaping with the victory.

Brantley County pulled even at 6-all in the top of the seventh with the tying run set up on a pair of errors on a ball hit by Story. She reached on a miscue by the Thomasville shortstop and advanced to second on an ensuing error by the first baseman.

Story raced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Jones and scored on Turner’s sac fly to center.

The Lady Bulldogs got a leadoff single in the seventh against Mary Hall (6.1 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 1 ER, 2 K, 2 BB, 1 HBP). The runner moved up on a groundout ahead of an intentional walk. A first-pitch liner to the outfield was misplayed allowing the runner from second to score the game-winning run.

BCHS scored twice in the second for a 2-0 lead. Mclain reached on a one-out error with Jayden Lewis (1-for-4) following with a base hit. After executing a double steal, Mclain stole home for a 1-0 lead.

Following an infield hit by Sydney Page (2-for-3), Lewis swiped home on a delayed double steal for the two-run advantage.

Thomasville evened the score at 2-all in the bottom half of the inning with both runs scoring on an error. The Lady Bulldogs took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth on a leadoff, solo homer.

Brantley County reclaimed the lead in the top of the fifth scoring three times for a 5-3 advantage. Anderson (3-for-4) legged out an infield hit and moved around to third on a wild pitch during and scored on a wild pitch tying the score at 3-apiece during a nine-pitch about to Story, who drew a walk.

Story was sacrificed to second on a bunt by Jones, advanced to third on a passed ball and trotted home on Turner’s sac fly to left. Davis followed three pitches later with a solo homer for a 5-3 lead.

Thomasville responded with three runs taking advantage of three errors by the Lady Herons in grabbing a 6-5 advantage.
