Brantley Co. travels to Savannah to face Knights

Windsor Forest goes for 2nd straight win in in series with Herons

CANEY BAY — With the season opener in the rearview mirror, Brantley County second-year head coach David Shores takes his squad to Savannah to face Windsor Forest.

The Knights are kicking off their season under second-year head coach C.J. Fraizer, who led his team to a 3 7 mark in 2024 after a previous threeyear stint as offen sive coordinator at Ridgeland-Hardeeville in South Carolina.

One of those three wins came courtesy of a 20-8 victory in Caney Bay over the Herons. A fivegame losi n g streak followed before Windsor Forest split its final four games beating winless Islands and one-win Groves in Region 3-AA affairs.

BCHS (0-1) and the Knights are playing for the fourth consecutive year though the 2023 encounter was cancelled and recorded as a forfeit. The Herons won 24-12 in 2022 to lead the series 2-1.

Brantley County is looking to rebound from a 32-12 season-opening home loss to Charlton County.

Shores and his 2024 coaching staff went into last year’s matchup without having seen any film on the Knights with the coaching change. Many of the players from the 2024 season either graduated or are no longer with the program.

Sophomore quarterback J.R. Rowland (5-foot-8, 175 lbs.) is a newcomer this season. Sophomore Dwane Franklin (5-8, 135, who has been moved to wide receiver, threw just 10 passes playing behind three seniors.

Senior Rysuan Braxton (6-2, 165) is the leading returning rusher as a wide receiver after the graduation of five seniors and a sophomore no longer in the program.

Senior Jayden Thomas is the leading returning pass catcher with five 2024 seniors no longer playing.

The defense will be led by senior middle linebacker Courtney Patrick, the leading returning tackler on a unit that rotated eight seniors last season. Junior linebacker Ja’Shawn Green (5-8, 200) and Thomas, who plays defensive back, tied for second in tackles returning.

Senior defensive linemen Damonte Holsey (6-foot, 200) and Samuel Mickle (5-11, 250) will anchor the defensive front as returners.
