Brantley Commission presented new 5-year Comprehensive Plan

NAHUNTA — Brantley County commissioners were presented an update for the new Comprehensive Plan during Thursday’s August monthly meeting.

Southeast Georgia Regional Commission Program Director James Horton addressed the commissioners during the August 7 meeting. He spoke about the new plan as well as having a series of planned meetings and workshops before the new plan can take effect.

This Comprehensive Plan pertains to the municipalities of Nahunta and Hoboken and Brantley County.

The Comprehensive Plan is a state mandated document which is updated every five years. It was last adopted in 2021 and runs out in 2026.

“This is the main planning document for both the cities and the county,” Horton said. “It will contain a work program of all projects and grants to apply for. The main reason is to keep qualified local governments. This will help keep in touch with all state funding programs.” Some of the programs linked to the qualified local governments include:

AmeriCorps Program

Appalachian Regional Commission Economic Development Grant Program

Bond Allocation Program

CDBG Loan Guarantee Program (Section 108 Porgri)

Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)

Continuum of Care

Downtown Development Revolving Loan Fund

Emergency Solutions Grant

Employment Incentive Program

Home Investment Partnership Programs

Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS

Immediate Threat and Danger Grant

OneGeorgia Programs

Redevelopment Fund Program

Regional Economic Business Assistance Program

State Housing Trust Fund

State Re-entry Partnership Housing Grants Stakeholders are also considered vital to the growth and development to the plan and they are welcome to participate in the meetings.

There will be workshops with the city councils of Nahunta and Hoboken, and Brantley County Commissioners.

Horton is hopeful city representation will hopefully be present at the meetings and workshop. A final public hearing and review of the plan followed will be followed by its adoption.

The meetings and workshops will be determined at a later date.
