Library board to meet Thursday, Aug. 14 The Pierce County Library Board will meet at 5 p.m. Thursday, August 14 at the library on College Avenue, Blackshear.

Donations sought to help Allen baby

Donations are now being accepted for Cody and Donna Allen to assist with medical and travel expenses for their daughter, who was born premature last month. For more information, please call Shirley Turner Lee at (912) 288-2595.

Memorial Satilla blood drive Aug. 15

Memorial Satilla Health will host a blood drive from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, August 15, on the Main Campus, 1900 Tebeau Street Waycross.

Donors are encouraged to make an appointment to ensure the drive is sufficiently staffed and all donor slots are filled. The Blood Connection (TBC) is currently facilitating Memorial Satilla’s drives. To schedule an appointment, visit thebloodconnection.org and use sponsor code 9391.

TBC is offering $40 in rewards to donors. Hospital Auxiliary volunteers will also serve homemade goodies and snacks.

Aging Advisory Council meets Aug. 27 The Aging Advisory Council of the Southern Georgia Regional Commission’s Area Agency on Aging will meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 27.

The meeting will be held at the Nashville Community Center, 102 North Jefferson Street in Nashville, Georgia.

The meeting is open to the public.

Memorial Satilla maternity class Sept. 15

Memorial Satilla will have maternity classes to help families prepare for childbirth and life after a new baby arrives.

Maternity classes will be held September 15 in the Birthing Center Conference Room (third floor).

The class includes a tour of Memorial Satilla’s state-of-the art Birthing Center at 1900 Tebeau Street Waycross.

AmVets to meet monthly

The C.C. Stephens Amvets Post 621 will meet the second Saturday of each month at the post on Ossie Davis Parkway in Waycross. Amvets is open to retired veterans in the area. The meeting will be at 9 a.m. The new Amvet Riders Chapter will meet at 10 a.m. and the ladies auxiliary group will meet at 11 a.m. For more information contact John White, public information officer for the post, at (912) 286-9902 or by email at [email protected].

Satilla Democrats to meet every second Saturday Satilla Democrats meet the second Saturday of the month at 11 a.m. at the Waycross Public Library, 401 Lee Ave, Heritage Room. For information contact Gale Burris at 912-282-1180.

River Missions resource center here to help

In conjunction with River of Life Church, the River Missions Community Resource Center is available to help provide life skills and community engagement. Some supplies, including jackets and blankets, are available as needed.

Pierce County History books available

The Pierce County History Book Vol. II and III are available for purchase at The Blackshear Times. Vol. I has sold out. Call or come by The Blackshear Times. ThePierceCountyHistory Books were compiled by the late Dean and Janie Broome. Mr. Broome was a longtime editor of The Times and Mrs. Broome was a longtime local educator and historian. The three volumes are the “official desk reference” for Pierce County History.
