WAYCROSS — Mr. Melvin R. “Buddy” Chancey, Jr., 87, of Waycross, died Wednesday afternoon, August 6, 2025, at Waycross Health and Rehabilitation Center after an extended illness.
He was born in Waycross to the late Melvin R. Chancey, Sr., and Ailene Harris Chancey. Chancey worked for CSX Transportation, was a former member of Sweat Memorial Baptist Church, and

was currently a member of Hosannah Church. He loved fishing, country music, wearing his cowboy hats and playing his guitar.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Chancey and Jonell Chancey; one brother, Donald Chancey; and two sons-in-laws, Alvin C. Manac and Timmy Dryden.
Chancey is survived by three daughters, Tammy Mullis of Waycross, Bonnie Dryden of Waycross, and Teresa Manac of Waycross; two sons, Melvin R. Chancey III of Waycross and David E. Chancey and his wife, Lisa, of Waycross; six grandchildren, Casey Chancey, Jordan Chancey, Logan Miller, Carly Holbrook, Brett Mullis, and Brianna Mullis; four great grandchildren, Delila Miller, Dylan Mullis, Dalton Mullis, and Kameron Mullis; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A graveside service was held Saturday, August 8, in Oakland Cemetery.
