Irene O’Berry Chancey

OFFERMAN — Mrs. Irene O’Berry Chancey, age 92, of Offerman, passed away early Monday morning, August 4, 2025, at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross following an extended illness.

Born July 22, 1933, in Offerman, Mrs. Chancey was a daughter of the late Emmet and Anna Mae Thomas O’Berry. She lived all her life in Pierce County and had worked in several shrimp and sewing factories. She worked many years on the family farm, and enjoyed being a longtime housewife, mother, and grandmother.

Mrs. Chancey had attended the Offerman Church of God and was a member of the Patterson Assembly of God.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Wendell “J.W.” Chancey, Sr.; a son, the Rev. Sammy Chancey; two sisters, Louise Chancey Owens and Ida Mae Clark; and four brothers, Jack O’Berry, Tom O’Berry, Arthur O’Berry, and Jimmy O’Berry.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Chancey of Offerman and Patricia Taylor of Waycross; three sons, Joe Chancey (wife Bobbie Jo) of Patterson, Robert Chancey (wife Cindy) of Patterson; and Kenny Chancey (wife Jan) of Ten Mile, Tenn.; daughter- in-law, Gina Chancey of Brunswick; 13 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; a greatgreat- great granddaughter; and numerous special nieces and nephews; and other relatives.

A funeral service was held Friday, August 8 in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Offerman Cemetery.
