Blood drive set Aug. 15 at MSH

Memorial Satilla Health will host a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, August 15 on the hospital’s main campus, 1900 Tebeau Street.

Donors are encouraged to make an appointment to ensure the drive is sufficiently staffed and all donor slots are filled. The Blood Connection is currently facilitating Memorial Satilla’s drives.

To schedule an appointment, visit thebloodconnection.org and use sponsor code 9391. TBC is offering $40 in rewards to donors. Hospital Auxiliary volunteers also serve homemade treats and snacks.

Dist. 176 candidate at Ware GOP forum The Ware County Republican Party holds its monthly meeting at 6 p.m., Monday, August 18, at Hog ‘n’ Bones, 1900 Memorial Drive, Waycross.

The session begins with a Dutch treat meal followed by the program featuring guest speaker Michael Dockery, a candidate for State Representative, District 176, in the May, 2026, Primary Election. James Burchett of Millwood is the incumbent.

Dockery is a native of Coffee County and a graduate of The Citadel where he earned both a Bachelors and Masters degree.

First Friday fest returns Sept. 5 Waycross begins the fall and winter portion of its First Friday celebrations at 5 p.m. September 5 throughout downtown.

The monthly festivals with the Downtown Waycross Merchants Association will feature bounce houses, vendors, music, merchant specials and more for the community.

Legion Post 517 meets Aug. 20

American Legion John S. Sutton Post 517, 710 Dorothy Street, holds a meeting at 6 p.m., Wednesday, August 20 for all officers and members.

OHC writer’s group meets twice in Aug.

The Okefenokee Heritage Center Writer’s Group will meet bimonthly from 6 to 8 p.m. on alternating Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Next month’s meetings will be Thursday, August 7 and Tuesday, August 19 at the center, 1460 N. Augusta Avenue.

Bowen family has reunion on Sept. 7 Descendants of Mark and William Hendry Bowen are invited to attend the annual family reunion Sunday, September 7 at the First Baptist Church activity building, 670 E. Main Street, Blackshear.

Dinner will be served at 1 p.m. Attendees should bring a covered dish of choice among a meat, vegetable or dessert along with serving utensils. All other items will be supplied.
