Lady Gators open season with losses to Coffee, Long County

Ware County’s Lady Gator softball team dropped their first two games of the season falling to Coffee and Long County in a pair of five inning affairs.

The Lady Gators were beaten 11-3 to the Lady Trojans in the Wednesday, August 6 opener in Douglas. The Lady Blue Tide spoiled Ware County’s Thursday, August 7 home opener posting a 10-1 victory.

Ware County was scheduled to play Tuesday, August 12 at Appling County. Camden County comes to town Thursday, August 14 for a 6 p.m., in the Kennedy Sanders Game.

The Lady Gators are scheduled to play Bainbridge (11:30 a.m.) and Dodge County (1:30 p.m.) in Cordele at the Crisp County tournament.

Brunswick visits Tuesday, August 19 at 6 p.m., with Ware County traveling Wednesday, August 20 to face Glynn Academy at 5 p.m.

DOUGLAS — The Lady Trojans built a 7-0 lead over the first two innings en route to the five-inning victory.

Ware County scored its three runs in the fourth inning to pull to within 7-3. Coffee responded with a three-runn bottom of the fourth and ended the game with a run in the fifth.

The Lady Gators managed three hits.

Visiting Long County used a six-run second inning and a four-run third inning in knocking off the Lady Gators.

The Lady Blue Tide scored on a two-run single, three runscoring base hits and a ground out in the second frame.

A pair of run-scoring singles were sandwiched around a two-run double in the third inning.

Ware County scored in the fourth inning on a run-scoring single off the bat of Kallie Lairsey, one of six hits by the Lady Gators.

Ashlyn Jacobs and Amberley Padgett led Ware County with two hits apiece.
