Bears tennis teams defeat Appling County

March 30, the Pierce County High School (PCHS) Tennis teams were given a run for their money facing off against Appling County, but eventually emerged with wins.

The Bears walked away with an overall score of 4-1, with Jeb Bradley facing a loss (2-6, 3-6)at #1 Singles.

J.C. Nimmer (#2 Singles, 6-, 6-3) and Aaden Carlson (#3 Singles, 6-4,6-3) faired better.

Davis Hersey and Peyton Thompson had to work for their #1 Doubles win, ending with 7-5,5-7,6-4 score.

At #2 Doubles Bennett Higginson and Garrett Page were able to make quicker work of their Appling opponents and won 6-0, 6-3.

The Lady Bears also faced stiff opposition from Appling, with an overall score of 3-2.

Grace Christopher faire well at #1 Singles, winning 6-2,6-0.

At #2 Singles, things were a little more tense for Rebecca Tyre when her second set went into a tiebreaker (TB). Tyre ultimately won 6-3, 7-6 (after 7-1 TB).

Marli Walker faced the Lady Bears first loss of the day at #3 Singles (1-6, 3-6).

#1 Doubles team MauraKate Waters and Mary Kathyrn Cox faced a similar situation to their male counterparts. After winning their first set and losing their second, Waters and Cox went into a TB for their third set. Unfortunately, the tide did not turn in their favor and the final score was 4-6, 6-4, 6-7 (after 5-7 TB).

At #2 Doubles Mattie Lee and Jasmine Sergent mirrored their teammates’ trajectory, coming in strong in their first set only to be pushed back in their second. Fortunately, Sergent and Lee had a strong performance in their third set and walked away with the win (6-0, 4-6, 6-2).

April 10 will see PCHS tennis host Charlton County.
