Irene O’Berry Chancey, 92, of Offerman, passed away Monday morning, August 4, 2025, at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross.
Born July 22, 1933, in Offerman, she was a daughter of the late Emmet and Anna Mae Thomas O’Berry.

She lived all her life in Pierce County and had worked in several shrimp and sewing factories. She worked many years on the family farm, and enjoyed being a longtime housewife, motherand grandmother. She had attended the Offerman Church of God and was a member of the Patterson Assembly of God.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Wendell “J.W.” Chancey Sr.; a son, the Rev. Sammy Chancey; two sisters, Louise Chancey Owens and Ida Mae Clark and four brothers, Jack O’Berry, Tom O’Berry, Arthur O’Berry and Jimmy O’Berry.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Chancey. Offerman and Patricia Taylor, Waycross; three sons, Joe Chancey (wife Bobbie Jo) and Robert Chancey (wife Cindy), all of Patterson and Kenny Chancey (wife Jan), Ten Mile, TN.; daughter-in-law, Gina Chancey, Brunswick; 13 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; a great-great-great-granddaughter; numerous special nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-noon Friday, August 8, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, August 8, from the chapel of Hart Funeral Home.
Interment will follow in the Offerman Cemetery.
