A Waycross man was charged with Possession of Cocaine and Drug Related Objects last week after being identified as the subject of an outstanding probation warrant, Ware County Sheriff’s Office Major Neil Skerratt said.
Mikel Anthony Dennis, 66, of the 300 block of Glass Street, was arrested Monday, July 28 after being stopped by WCSO Detectives while riding a bicycle on Walters Street off Brunel Street. Dennis was charged with felony Possession of Cocaine and misdemeanor Possession of Drug Related Objects and remains in the Ware County Jail.
About 4:40 p.m., July 28, Det. Dakota York and Det. Anthony Phillips saw a man they believed to be Dennis riding a bike on Jenkins Street near Haines Avenue. The detectives checked for outstanding warrants and found one for Dennis.

After turning around, the detectives saw Dennis turning left off Brunel onto Walters Street. Dennis ran the stop sign there, but was quickly pulled over after the authorities activated their signal lights.
Upon making contact with Dennis, he told them he was someone different than the person sought in the warrant. The detectives verified through photographs the man was Dennis.
A search of his person revealed a glass smoking pipe and a white, chunky substance that field tested positive for cocaine. Dennis was taken into custody and transported to the jail where he was served the next day with warrants on the two drug charges by Det. York.
