City providing dumpsters to help citizens

The City of Waycross announced last week it will provide a large dumpster for one week each month to help citizens properly dispose of household trash and large items.

The receptacle will be at E.E. Moore Park (Zone 1) through Friday August 8 to collect items. The container will be at a location in Zone 2 next month.

There is no charge to deposit the items and it’s open to all city residents. The city said its goal in initiating the effort is to help keep the community clean and prevent trash and large items from being left along roadsides and/or in canals.

Among the prohibited items in the collection are tires, containers of paint, solvents, chemicals or pesticides, building materials, tree removal debris, bricks or blocks.

The city conducted a similar campaign in the spring in each of the five commission districts with the receptacle in the district one week before moving on. Regardless of the container’s location, a resident could deposit items at any time.

The city also updated the completed portion of its paving schedule. Dirt roads that have been completed are Georgia, Morehouse, Boulevard, Brown and Greenwood streets and East Hamilton Avenue.

Paving has been completed using 2023 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax funds for Old Brunel, Brunel, Nicholls and Solomon streets as well as Gilmore, Palmetto, Washington and Kentucky avenues and Parkway Drive.

Screven Avenue is the next sizeable project on the city’s repaving list.
