WAYCROSS — Thomas Donald Smith, Sr., 85 of Waycross, died Thursday evening, July 31, 2025 at his son’s residence in Waynesville after an extended illness.
Smith was born in Waycross to the late Tommie C. Smith and Nora Pittman. He made Waycross his home for most of his life. He served his country faithfully in the United States Navy and United States Air Force where he retired after 20 years as a Training Superintendent.
Smith went on to work for Gibson-McDonald Furniture and Central Baptist Church. He enjoyed a good western and loved to buy and sell cars.
Smith was a member of Williams Chapel Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Smith is preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Pierce Smith; a brother, Charles Smith; and a sister, Gwen Rogers.
He is survived by his three sons, Donnie Smith, wife Shannon, of Waynesville, Tony Smith, wife Susan, of Milton, Ga., and Danny Smith, wife Kim, of Blackshear; eight grandchildren, Jenny Via and husband James, Jay De-Pratter and wife Amanda, Joey DePratter, Maggie Smith, Maddie Smith, Daniel Smith and wife Rebecca, Bryan Smith and Anna Smith; six greatgrandchildren, Levi, Walker, Waylon, Karson, Klein and Sawyer; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A graveside service will be held Monday, August 11, 2025 at 12 p.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday morning, August 11, 2025, from 9:3011:30am at Miles-Odum Funeral Home.
