After a few weeks of the new school year, kids and parents alike will be ready to have some fun. Luckily, a special Back to School Bash and Hurricane Preparedness event August 23 will feature plenty of ways to have fun— and learn how to keep safe this hurricane season.
A cooperative effort hosted by Pierce Chamber of Commerce, Pierce Rec Department, T-Mobile and SAVD Toys, event will take place 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. at the NFC gym, located at 705 College Avenue in Blackshear. The centerpiece of the event is a Nintendo Smash Brothers tournament.
A $5 entry fee gets each competitor a special lanyard and a chance to win the first, second, third place and overall champion trophies. They are also entered into a raffle for a special Godzilla collectible. The competition is open to kids and adults, who will be split into groups by age range.
There will also be a cosplay contest for kids ages 5-9 with a secret surprise judge helping determine the winner.
Food will be provided by the Pierce County Rec Department and there will be funnel cakes available from A&J Funnel Cakes. Entertainment will be handled by special guest DJ KrystalEyes from Vintage J’s Music and Apparel.
Finally, there will be opportunities to learn how to stay safe this hurricane season with the Pierce is Prepared initiative courtesy of the Pierce Family Connection and the local Chamber of Commerce.
The sign up deadline for the event is August 20.
