An Atkinson County man is in the Ware County Jail on charges of felony homicide by a vehicle and DUI-alcohol in connection to a two-vehicle wreck Friday night, July 25 that killed a Brunswick woman, Ware County Sheriff’s Office Major Neil Skerratt reported.
Collin Neal Rodriguez, 39, of a Lawrence Road address in Axon, Ga., was booked into the jail at 9:38 p.m., Saturday after being arrested by Deputy Louis Moran on charges brought by the Georgia State Patrol. In addition to the DUI and Homicide, Rodriguez faces misdemeanor charges of Failing to Travel on the Right Side of a Roadway, Use of a Seatbelt in a Vehicle, Expired Tag and No Proof of Insurance.
Rodriguez had bond denied in an appearance before a magistrate Monday, July 28, said Skerratt.
Killed in the collision about 10 p.m., on Ga. 520 near mile marker 3 was Kavana T’Keyah Russell, 26, of a Miller Cove address in Brunswick. Pierce County Coroner William Wilson pronounced Russell dead at the scene at 11:31 p.m., Skerratt said.
About 10:13 p.m., Patrol Cpl. Jacob Carter responded to a call of a wreck on Ga. 520 with possible injuries. Prior to his arrival, Carter was advised there could be severe injuries and a possible fatality.

When Carter arrived, he found a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck with severe front end damage. In the other vehicle involved, a Volkswagon Jetta, Carter observed a female identified as Russell, unresponsive with no pulse in the driver’s seat.
Carter went to the pickup truck where he found a man identified as Rodriguez in the driver’s seat slipping in and out of consciousness.
WCSO Sgt. Michael Patterson, as well as Ware EMS arrived shortly after, and GSP was called to investigate the accident. GSP Trooper Middleton arrived to take over the investigation.
GSP advised the pickup truck was traveling south in the northbound lane when it struck the Jetta, Skerratt said. The GSP’s Specialized Crash Reconstruction Team was called in to investigate.
