The second suspect in the June 28 shooting at a Waycross Police Officer during a vehicle pursuit is in the Ware County Jail after being extradited last week from North Carolina, authorities said.

Kamar Anthony Boyd, 20, of Waycross, was arrested about 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 15 in Charlotte, by the United States Marshals Service. He was returned to Waycross by a private prisoner transportation service Friday following extradition proceedings, Ware County Sheriff’s Office Major Neil Skerratt said. Boyd was booked into the jail at 3:39 a.m., Friday, July 25 on a variety of felony charges by Ware County as well as the Waycross Police Department, Skerratt said. Boyd’s charges were Entering Auto by Ware County along with Aggravated Assault Against a Police Officer, Willful Obstruction Against a Police Officer, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer.

Boyd was denied bond in an appearance before a magistrate Saturday, July 26 after his return, Skerratt said.

The other suspect in the case, Daquawn Jerrell White, 20, of Waycross, also is in the Ware County Jail after his arrest July 8 in the 300 block of Garlington Heights. White was denied bond in an appearance before a magistrate July 8.

White faces charges of Entering Auto by Ware County, Possession of a Firearm or Knife in the Commission of Certain Crimes, Aggravated Assault Against a Police Officer, Willful Obstruction Against a Police Officer and Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer.

Waycross Police Department Major Danny Hampton said U.S. Marshals were able to locate Boyd in Charlotte through their investigation leading to his arrest.

White was located late Monday, July 7. Negotiators spent nearly two hours into the early morning hours of July 8 trying to persuade the suspect to emerge from the Waycross apartment.

Finally, the WPD SWAT team entered the residence around 1 a.m., and found White hiding in the apartment’s ventilation system.

The June 28 incident began with an attempted traffic stop around 2:15 a.m., of a vehicle linked to multiple felony crimes in Waycross. The driver of the vehicle fled, prompting a pursuit during which suspects inside the vehicle opened fire on police.

The pursuing officer’s patrol car was struck several times by bullets, but no injuries were reported.

The suspects later abandoned the vehicle in a southside Waycross neighborhood and fled on foot. A 15-year-old juvenile was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, with additional felony charges pending, authorities said.

A reward was offered for any information that led to the whereabouts of the suspects.
