Special to the WJH
The City of Waycross is currently accepting applications for the Mayor’s Youth Council, a leadership program designed to engage high school students in local government and civic involvement.
The council provides high school students with an opportunity to learn about municipal government, participate in community service, and advise city leaders on issues affecting youth in Waycross. Members will develop leadership skills, engage in meaningful dialogue with elected officials, and work together on projects that positively impact the community.
Students in grades 9-12 who reside in the city regardless of their school district are eligible to apply. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to leadership, civic engagement, and public service.
The council enables participants:
• to gain firsthand experience in local government;
• develop public speaking, teamwork, and leadership skills;
• contribute to real change in the Waycross community;
• earn valuable volunteer experience for college and scholarship applications.
The council is an investment in the next generation of Waycross leaders. Waycross Mayor Michael-Angelo James urges all eligible students to apply and help shape the city’s future.
