The 21st annual Walter A. Sr. and Earnestine Lewis Myles Honor Day will be held at noon Saturday, August 2 at the Empowerment Center International Ministries, 489 Hwy. 206 Connector in Douglas.
A scholarship fund in memory of two former educators has been established. During the annual program, a number of scholarships are awarded to deserving students to help them further their education.
The application process is open to students throughout the area.
The only requirement to apply is students must be enrolled in college or technical school for at least one year. Recipients of the scholarships will be recognized during the honor day event.
The Myles’ were educators in Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Coffee, Long, Pierce, Ware and Wayne counties. Each year the honor day event rotates to a community where they taught.
Former employers, co-workers, students, family members and friends of the Myles’ are urged to attend the honor day. The event also honors secretaries, lunchroom attendants, bus drivers, counselors, principals, coaches and others who give of their service to education.
A souvenir booklet is being prepared for the honor day program.
Donations are accepted with checks made payable to the W.A. and Earnestine Myles Scholarship Fund.
