Kam Moody playing in 8-under World Series of Little League

HOBOKEN — Hoboken Elementary School fourth-grade student Kameron “Kam” Moody is having the time of his life this summer.

The eight-year-old son of Michael and Jacinola Moody of Brantley County is heading to the World Series of Little League Baseball in Indianapolis, Ind. His grandparents are Teresa and Miles Moody, and Janice and James Bailey.

The tournament field includes one team from each of the 50 states. Each team is comprised of the 12 top eight-year-olds across every respective state. Thousands of youngsters were nominated from Georgia.

The World Series begins today (Wednesday, July 28) with pool play and homerun derby. The championship is set for Sunday, August 3.

A shortstop/third baseman, Kam Moody will be playing with Team 8U Exposure National, ranked No. 1 in Georgia regardless of classification, based out of Valdosta. The roster is made up of the top players from across the state forming an elite 12-player roster. The team has lost just seven times in over 80 games played this season.

The coaching staff is made up of head coach Adam Amar and assistant coaches Blake Stokes, Colby Murphy and Justin Gibbs.

The younger Moody also plays for the Pines Moody 8U travel team, coached by his father, and was recently asked to play for KOHR 8U out of Cochran.

Kam has already played with Team Exposure having participated in a World Series event in Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., earlier this month. The team finished third and Moody captured the 8U home run derby, his second of the season following a win in Jesup back in February.

He has been selected for Sports Illustrated’s Youth Athlete of the Year with online voting underway. The link is https://athleteoftheyear.org/2025/ kameron-dec2 Michael Moody says his youngest son of four children has dreams of playing college baseball and Major League Baseball.

“He (Kam) just loves the sport,” said Michael Moody. “He plays year round. We are on a ball field somewhere just about every weekend. Kam fell in love with the game when he started playing T-ball at the age of three. We started playing traveling ball when he was five.

“He breathes and sleeps baseball ... never complains about going to practice. He will ask when practice is. Kam’s goal is to play college ball. His dream is to be in the MLB.”

His favorite player is premier power-hitter Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees. He also likes an-other Yankee, Jazz Chisholm, Jr.

One doesn’t have to wonder who his favorite big league team is.

The Moodys, father and son, spend four days a week practicing. Tuesdays and Thursdays practices are held in Douglas with the Pines Moody travel squad. Wednesdays and Sundays are with Exposure National in Valdosta. The youngster also has a hitting instructor and a pitching coach he works with in preparation for the move to 10U pitching.

In his spare time, Kam loves to fish at the family river house or family pond. The Moodys also do a lot of salt water fishing.

Family support has been huge for youngster.

“Everybody has 100 percent bought in to his passion,” said Michael Moody, who has rekindled a fire first lit by his eldest son. “My oldest boy is 28, my middle boy is 24 and my daughter is 22. We had a late surprise in life. My oldest play ball so we’re re-living those days with Kam.

“The grandparents are very supportive. They are at nearly every tournament. I’m glad Kam’s getting to to do what he loves. Obviously he loves it or he wouldn’t be out there all the time.”

Some personal highlights for the youngest Moody is two homerun derby crowns and a couple of MVP honors.

A World Series title would be icing on the cake for the 2025 season.
