Ounice ‘Martin’ Copeland, Jr.

WAYCROSS – Ounice “Martin” Copeland, Jr., 81 of Waycross, passed away Wednesday morning, July 23, 2025 at his residence after an extended illness.

Born in Ashburn, Ga., Copeland’s parents were Ounice Martin Copeland, Sr. and Thelma Harden Copeland. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Shelba “JoAnn” Lynes Copeland; two brothers, Ronald Copeland and Billy Copeland; and four sisters, Rena Mae Jolly, Mary Kay Copeland, Marie Kirkland and Linda Copeland.

Copeland was a retired truck driver for Detweiler’s Propane Gas in Sarasota, Fla. He was of the Baptist faith.

Copeland loved fishing, going camping but most of all spending time with his great grandchildren.

Survivors include his son, Alan Copeland of Leesburg, Fla.; a daughter, Veronica Copeland of Waycross; a stepson, Al Walker of Jeusp; four grandchildren, Jarrod Copeland (Amy), Coty Morris (Becky Terry), Tabatha Morris and Jakob Walker; two great grandchildren, Archie Copeland and Adeline Copeland; a sisters, Jeanette Tindall of Palmetto, Fla.; and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

A funeral service was held Saturday, July 26, 2025 at the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Monroe Gill and Rev. Michael Foreman officiating.

Burial followed in Knox Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Alan Copeland, Coty Morris, Jarrod Copeland, Lonnie Ball, Bradford Tilson and Doug Tilson.

Arrangements were with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
