Nahunta Baptist Church played host to a community wide Gospel service to commemorate the Centennial celebration Sunday The July 26, 2025 event consisted of praise and worship music with words spoken by Jake Baum, pastor of Nahunta First Baptist Church, as well as Trey Keene, pastor of Whosoever Church out of Hickox, who also supplied the music with his praise band.
Songs included such familiar hymns as “Amazing Grace,” “How Great is Our God,” “I’ll Fly Away,” and “Gratitude.”
Pastor Baum was honored for his church to be included in the celebration. He praised Nahunta Baptist Church’s leadership.
“Our church has been here the longest here in Nahunta,” Pastor Baum said. “We’ve been here for 135 years. There’s a lot of cities that fall away, but Nahunta has been able to stay established by taking care of its citizens.”
Pastor Keene preached a message on John 3:16 as well as sharing his own personal testimony about living in Nahunta all his life. He drew parallels between Nazareth and Nahunta during the time of Christ.
“Nahunta has seen the good and the bad, but I’m very thankful for this place,” Pastor Keene. “I’m grateful that our Savior was raised in a small town like ours and I see God doing amazing things in this town just like back then.”
Mayor Pro Tem Bruce Davis also played a couple of songs on the piano such as “The Anchor Holds” and an instrumental rendition of a song called “I Believe In Miracles.”
