Post 621 schedules bookbag giveaway
Amvets Post 621 will hold a back to school giveway from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 26 at Bailey Street Park.
The organization will pass out book bags while they last and have hot dogs and drinks. Elementary-age students must be present with a parent or guardian.
New teachers lunch today at 1st Baptist
First Baptist Church, 702 Elizabeth Street, holds its annual luncheon for new teachers in the Ware County School System at noon today (Wednesday, July 23).
Nearly four dozen teachers in their first year in the system are expected. Each teacher receives a gift during the luncheon and chances for door prizes donated from local businesses.
Elections board meets Aug. 5
The regular monthly meeting of the Ware County Board of Elections and Registration will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 5 in Suite 201 of the Ware County Administration Building, 305 Oak Street.

Post 517 offers school supplies
American Legion Post 517 holds a Back-to-School supply giveaway from noon to 3 p.m., Saturday, August 2 at 301 Garlington Heights.
There will be free hot dogs, popcorn and drinks along with book bags and a variety of school materials available for free on a first-come-firstserved basis.

The Waycross-Ware County Public Library Board of Trustees will meet at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 24 in Room 212, Ware County Administration Building, 305 Oak Street.

Satilla Democrats elect officers Aug. 9
The Satilla Democrats will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 9 at The Stephens Venue, 773 Ossie Davis Pkwy.

‘Create with a Cop’ art class set Aug. 23
The Waycross Police Department will stage “Create with a Cop: Brush with the Law” art class from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Aug. 23 at the police department, 512 Oak Street.
The free event on painting with oil is for ages 12-17. Registration forms are available in the front lobby of WPD with a deadline of Friday, Aug. 1.
Early registration is encouraged as space is limited.
Blood drive set Aug. 15 at MSH
Memorial Satilla Health will host a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, August 15 on the hospital’s main campus, 1900 Tebeau Street.
Donors are encouraged to make an appointment to ensure the drive is sufficiently staffed and all donor slots are filled. The Blood Connection is currently facilitating Memorial Satilla’s drives.

OHC writer’s group meets twice in Aug.
The Okefenokee Heritage Center Writer’s Group will meet bimonthly from 6 to 8 p.m. on alternating Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Next month’s meetings will be Tuesday, August 7 and Thursday, August 19 at the center, 1460 N. Augusta Avenue.

Six from Ware on CCG academic list
Six Ware County students earned distinction for their academic performance during the Spring 2025 semester at The College of Coastal Georgia in Brunswick.
Each student earned a place on the President’s List, compiling a GPA of 4.0 over 12 hours or more of course work. The honorees in alphabetical order were Alyssa Crowe, Danielle McCullough, Raj Patel, Jessica Rendon, Rebecca Richards, and Jarrett Rowell.
