HORTENSE – Karen Cox Hamlett, 69 of Hortense, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2025 at her residence.
Born in Greensboro, N.C., her parents were James Fletcher Cox and Betty Hughes Cox. She is also preceded in death by two brothers, James Fletcher Cox III and Donald Cox.
Mrs. Hamlett was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She loved going to the beach, bird watching, doing jigsaw puzzles, listening to music and most of all loved spending time with family and her grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-inlaw, Tarah Lee of Ramseur, N.C., and Kaitlinn Weerts (Shawn) of Hortense; four grandchildren, Alexis Lee, Ethan Lee, Olivia Weerts and John Weerts; and also several other relatives and a host of friends.
A sunset walk to celebrate the life of Mrs. Hamlett was held Thursday evening, July 17, 2025 at Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island. The family will have a private celebration of life at a later date.
