Pierce father killed, son injured in Wayx wreck

A Pierce County man died and his son was seriously injured when the motorcycle he was driving crashed into a vehicle Thursday, July 10, east of Waycross.

Cary Lovell, 33, of a Pierce County address, was riding a 2023 Kawasaki ZX1002 westbound on U.S. Highway 82, according to a report of Georgia State Patrol Trooper Chris Rigby.

Brandy Sammons, 41, of a Waycross address, was traveling eastbound in a 2014 Ford Flex (full-size crossover SUV/wagon) on U.S. Highway 82. The accident report stated Sammons failed to yield while turning left onto Blount Road.

Lovell’s motorcycle struck the passenger front quarter panel with its front.

Lovell was thrown on top of the 2014 Ford Flex and died at the scene, the report said.

Lovell’s son, 14, was riding with his dad on the bike. His name was not released because he is a juvenile.

The juvenile and Sammons were both transferred by Ware County EMS to Memorial Satilla Health Center.

The accident remains under further investigation by Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) led by Trooper Brian Edwards.

Family and friends have established a GoFund Me page for Lovell and his son. Proceeds will be used to assist the son with medical expenses and recovery and other proceeds will be used to assist with funeral expenses for Lovell.
