BAXLEY — Pierce County’s 14-under 200yard mixed medley relay and 200-yard mixed free relay teams posted runner-up finishes here Friday at the Appling County Aquatic Complex in the GRPA Class C state swim meet.
The second-place showings were the best at the finals for the firstyear rec program. The four Pierce County swimmers also logged five fourth-place showings and one fifth in individual events.
In the 200 mixed medley event, Lyla Brooker swam the backstroke leg, Jax Coates the breaststroke, Lily Gray Wright the butterfly and Eli Thorne the freestyle. They posted a 2:40.24 time bettering their previous best time by eight seconds.
The foursome recorded a time of 2:17.49 in the 200 mixed free event bettering their previous mark by four seconds.
Individually, Brooker finished fourth in the 100 free with a time of 1:09.53. She also finished fourth in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 40.12 seconds. Brooker placed fifth in the 50 free posting sub-30 second mark of 29.87 seconds.
Coates had fourthplace showings in both the 50 breast and 100 individual medley (IM). His time of 37.85 seconds in the breast and 1:24.88 in the IM were both personal best marks.
Thorne placed fourth in the 50 breast with a personal-best time of 54.31 seconds.
