Pierce County man dies from injuries in Georgia 520 crash Thurs.

A Pierce County man died when the motorcycle he was driving crashed into a vehicle Thursday afternoon.

Cary Lovell, 33, of a Pierce County address, was riding a 2023 Kawasaki ZX1002 westbound on Georgia 520 in the left lane, according to the 6:49 p.m., July 10 report of Georgia State Patrol Trooper Chris Rigby.

Brandy Sammons, 41, of a Waycross address, was traveling eastbound in a 2014 Ford Flex (full-size crossover SUV/wagon) on Georgia 520. The accident report stated Sammons failed to yield while turning left onto Blount Road.

Lovell’s motorcycle struck the passenger front quarter panel with its front. Sammons’ vehicle came to a final controlled stop in the center of Blount Road near Georgia 520 with the Kawasaki ZX1002’s final uncontrolled stop in the right westbound lane of Georgia 520.

Lovell was thrown on top of the 2014 Ford Flex and succumbed to his injuries at the scene, the report said.

Lovell’s 14-year-old passenger was thrown to a final rest on the north shoulder of Georgia 520 just west of Blount Road.

The passenger was transferred by Ware County EMS to Satilla Memorial Health Center with suspected serious injuries. Sammons also was transported by EMS to SMH.

The accident remains under further investigation by Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) led by Trooper Brian Edwards.
