WPD makes one arrest in shooting case, looking for 2nd suspect

The Waycross Police Department has arrested one of two suspects involved in the June 28 shooting at an officer during a vehicle pursuit.

Daquan Jerrell White, 20, was taken into custody at approximately 1 a.m. Tuesday, July 8 in the 300 block of Garlington Avenue. White rep ortedly fired multiple shots at the officer hitting the patrol car several times and is facing Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer.

Kamar Anthony Boyd, 20, of Waycross, the other suspect in the incident, remains at large, WPD said.

Once White was located late Monday, July 5, negotiators spent nearly two hours into the early morning hours of July 6 trying to persuade White to emerge from the apartment.

Finally, the WPD SWAT team entered the residence around 1 a.m., and found White hiding in the apartment’s ventilation system.

White also is a suspect in several other violent felonies, authorities said. Additional felony charges are expected, they said.

After the chase and shooting, the suspects abandoned the vehicle in a southside Waycross neighborhood and fled on foot. A 15-year-old juvenile was arrested at that time and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, with additional felony charges pending, authorities said.
