MSH honors graduating residents

Special to the WJH Family Residency Program graduates, Dr. Darnelle Ambo and Dr. Blessy George, were recently recognized during a luncheon ceremony at Okefenokee Country Club.

“Congratulations on this remarkable achievement. We’re incredibly proud of you and excited to see all the ways you will continue to make a difference in the world,” said Brandi Waters, MSH vice president of medical staff services & quality. “I also would like to acknowledge and thank the program site directors, faculty and staff who’ve guided, mentored, and supported our graduates.

“The residency program wouldn’t be possible without you. Your dedication to teaching and your passion for medicine are helping to shape the furemain ture of healthcare.”

Drs. Ambo and George trained in Waycross for two of their three-year instruction through the Medical College of Georgia/ Augusta University. Both new physicians will in Georgia to practice.

Dr. Ambo has accepted a position at Piedmont Hospital in Augusta while Dr. George will be at a general practice in Cumming.

MSH was designated as a “teaching hospital” in 1998 when the state recognized the facility as a leader in the region for providing quality healthcare.

Waycross is the smallest Georgia community ever chosen for a family practice residency program.

Residents receive inpatient training from local physicians at the hospital and other community physicians.

The program has maintained accreditation by the American Council of Graduate Medical Education since the first class of graduates in June 2000.
