Special to the WJH Waycross native Dr. Zandra K. Harris Pinnix graduated from Harvard University earlier this year with a Master’s degree in Education Leadership-Higher Education.
Dr. Pinnix is the daughter of Cassandra “Chris” Carter, and the granddaughter of the late Louella Carter and the late Marvin Carter, Sr. She graduated in 1990 from Waycross High School where she was an All-Region and All-State basketball player.
Basketball helped her continue her athletic and academic career when she received a basketball scholarship to UNCWilmington where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. A Master of Science degree in Chemistry from North Carolina A&T followed as did a Doctorate in Christian Education from Andersonville Theological Seminary.
Currently an Assistant Professor of Biology at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C., Dr. Pinnix later earned a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Wake Forest School of Medicine.
Dr. Pinnix is a cancer biochemist and has published studies on human leukemia, breast cancer progression, and racial disparities in triple negative, and quadruple negative breast cancer.
She and her husband, Thomas Pinnix, Jr. have been married for 24 years and are founders and pastors of Great Commission Outreach Ministries, International, Inc. in Roswell, Ga.
