The perfection of Christ

In a world where everything and everyone falls short, one name stands above all—Jesus Christ. According to the Bible, He is not just good—He is perfect. Hebrews 7:26 declares, “For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens.” From His birth to His resurrection, from His words to His works, Jesus is flawless in every way, shape, form and fashion.

Jesus is perfect in His person. He is not half man and half God—He is fully both. John 1:14 says, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us…” and Colossians 2:9 confirms, “For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.”

He didn’t become God— He has always been God, co-equal with the Father and the Holy Ghost.

He was also perfect in His purity. Though tempted like us, He never sinned. 1 Peter 2:22 says, “Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth.” Even Pilate, who sentenced Him to death, had to admit, “I find no fault in him” (John 19:6). Hebrews 4:15 affirms, “But was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”

Jesus is perfect in His preaching. He taught with divine authority, not like the religious leaders of His day. Matthew 7:29 says, “For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.”

His words were full of both grace and truth. Luke 4:22 says, “And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth.”

He is also perfect in His power. He healed the sick, raised the dead, calmed the sea and cast out devils. In Matthew 8:27, the disciples marveled, saying, “What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!” He never met a storm He couldn’t still or a grave He couldn’t empty.

But nowhere is His perfection more seen than in His passion—His suffering and death for our sins. Isaiah 53:5 says, “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities…” At Calvary, He took the place of sinners. On the cross, He cried, “It is finished” (John 19:30). He didn’t die as a victim, but as a victorious Savior.

Then came the resurrection, the proof of His perfect performance. Matthew 28:6 says, “He is not here: for he is risen, as he said.” Romans 1:4 declares Him to be “the Son of God with power… by the resurrection from the dead.” He rose exactly as promised. And He’s coming again. Acts 1:11 says, “ This same Jesus… shall so come in like manner.” Jesus is perfect in His purpose. Luke 19:10 says, “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” He didn’t come to start a religion— He came to redeem sinners. Every step He took was part of God’s perfect plan.

He is also perfect in His provision. Philippians 4:19 says, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Psalm 23:1 declares, “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.” He gives grace in weakness, peace in trouble and strength for the journey.

Finally, Jesus is perfect in His priesthood. Unlike earthly priests, He never sinned and never dies. Hebrews 7:25 says, “ He is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him…” Verse 26 adds, “For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled…” And 1 John 2:1 reminds us, “We have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”

Friend, the world is filled with imperfection. But Christ is perfect! Perfect to save! Perfect to trust! And perfect to worship! Amen!
