Exchange Club donates to SE Cancer Unit

Roxanne Carter, Program Chair, introduced Brenda Waters with Southeast Cancer to the Exchange Club of Blackshear. Waters stated, “The Southeast Cancer Unit is a local, non-profit, charitable organization made up of volunteer officers, board of directors, and member volunteers”. All monies raised by this organization remain local helping people affected by cancer in Brantley, Pierce and Ware counties. They do not pay any salaries and do not receive any state or federal funding. Their funds come from individual contributions, business and corporate sponsorships and fundraising events. For example, Okefenoke REMC sponsors an annual golf tournament and raised around $28,000 this past year. SE Cancer offers up to $1,500 if available, per year, per patient in financial assistance. These funds can be used for medications, supplies, prosthesis, professional fees like co-pays, wigs, gas cards and other serv-ices needed, as well as emotional support. You can help support your local cancer organization through contributions, time and talents. Volunteers are desperately needed! For more information, please call 912-452-7070.
