Memorial Satilla holds residency graduation at country club

Family Residency Program graduates, Dr. Darnelle Ambo and Dr. Blessy George, were recognized recently at a ceremony held at Okefenokee Country Club.

“Congratulations on this remarkable achievement. We are incredibly proud of you and excited to see all the ways you will continue to make a difference in the world,” said Brandi Waters, VP of medical staff services & quality at Memorial Satilla Health. “I would also like to acknowledge and thank the program site directors, faculty and staff who have guided, mentored, and supported our graduates. The residency program would not be possible without you. Your dedication to teaching and your passion for medicine are helping to shape the future of healthcare.”

Drs. Ambo and George trained in Waycross for two of their three-year training through the Medical College of Georgia/Augusta University. Both new physicians will practice in Georgia. Dr. Ambo accepted a position at Piedmont Hospital in Augusta and Dr. George will be at a general practice in Cumming.

Memorial Satilla Health was designated as a “teaching hospital” in 1998 when the state recognized the facility as a true leader in this region for providing quality healthcare. Waycross is the smallest community ever chosen for a family practice residency program in Georgia.

Residents receive inpatient training from local physicians at Memorial Satilla and other community physicians. The program has maintained accreditation by the American Council of Graduate Medical Education since the first class of graduates in June 2000.
