The Pierce Rec Department has opened registration for their summer Brazillian soccer camp. Parents are invited to sign their kids up for soccer fun with expert coaching and skill development in a safe and enriching environment.

Camp runs from Monday - Friday, beginning July 21 with three time brackets. Full day: ages 914, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Half day: ages 7-14, 9 a.m. noon Future stars: ages 46, 3-4 p.m.

Location is Tiger Field, 705 College Ave. in BLackshear.

NFL player to conduct training camp

Former NFL defensive tackle Hollis Thomas Jr. will host a training camp for Pierce County youngsters July 14 and 15.

The event will take place from 9 a.m.-noon p.m. July 14-15 at Tiger Field.

The event is sponsored by Charlissa Culp and Associates and the Pierce County Recreation Department.

The program is free and is open to boys and girls ages 6-17.

The program will provide skills training, drills, mentorship and motivation. For more information or to register, call the recreation department at (912) 449-7791.

Thomas played in the NFL for 13 seasons. In addition to the Eagles, Thomas also played for the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers.

A native of Abilene, TX, he played college football at Northern Illinois.
