Zaxby’s waiting on EPD permits

Blackshear is still getting a Zaxby’s.

A delay in permitting the proposed new restaurant’s septic system is the reason ground hasn’t been broken yet.

Taylor Hawkins of Callahan, FL, is the franchisee for the new Zaxby’s which is to be built at the plaza on U.S. Highway 84 just west of Blackshear. Hawkins has submitted plans for the new eatery and is awaiting approval and issuance of proper permits before beginning construction.

Chandler McGee, spokesman for the Southeast Health District of the Georgia Department of Public Health said Hawkins’ building plans for the new Zaxby’s and its septic system require review and approval by the federal Environmental Protection Division (EPD).

There is no timeline for when the plans might be reviewed and when the permits for construction might be issued.

Plans for the new Zaxby’s were first announced in January.

Hawkins has said he is firmly committed to having a Zaxby’s in Blackshear.
