HCA honors three MSH staffers

Special to the WJH

Three team members at Memorial Satilla Health have been recognized as Awards of Distinction recipients by HCA Healthcare.

Veteran Registered Nurses Pam Jones (critical care) and Lisa Grantham (outpatient surgery) have received the Excellence in Nursing Award for Compassionate Care. Hospital Chaplain Steve Boatright is the hospital’s Frist Humanitarian Award recipient.

Jones has worked at Memorial Satilla for 24 years. She was nominated by three coworkers.

Grantham has been working in surgery for nearly 30 years. Boatright has been a chaplain and member of the hospital auxiliary team since 2021.

In addition to receiving the facility- level award, Boatright and Jones are also South Atlantic Division winners. They will be entered into the judging for the enterprise-level awards, which will be announced during an upcoming ceremony at HCA Healthcare’s headquarters in Nashville, Tenn.

“The highest honor in HCA Healthcare is to be named an Awards of Distinction Winner. In an industry where helping others is a calling, these colleagues stand out as leaders, helpers and healers,” said Hugh Tappan, Division President. “I’m excited to celebrate their unselfish attitudes and passion for others. You’ve made an impact on your colleagues and neighbors.”

RN Pam Jones

“Pam always demonstrates compassion toward her patients and coworkers and is a true asset to her department and the organization,” said Dr. Celeste Brizzee, Chief Nursing Officer at MSH. “She shows concern for the welfare and happiness of patients, and a level of commitment to community services beyond her daily obligations as an employee.”

Added a coworker: “She consistently serves as a role model for other team members, including new nurses. She is an exemplary nurse and functions as a true team player. Working with Pam is always a pleasure. She not only takes care of her ICU patients, she takes care, and cares for, her ICU family.”

RN Lisa Grantham

“Lisa’s award-winning traits are shown at work by how she goes above and beyond for her patients and her co-workers,” Brizzee said. “She takes initiative, demonstrating great leadership in advocating for her patients and for the profession of nursing. She demonstrates a daily commitment to the care and improvement of human life.”

Added a coworker: “Lisa will always seek out ways to help her coworkers. She is attentive to not only her patient's needs, but the patient's families as well. Her compassionate care and professional mentoring are 10 out of 10!”

Chaplain Steve Boatright “Steve always arrives at the hospital with a welcoming smile and outgoing personality,” his nomination letter read. “His kindness, positive attitude and compassion are evident during every interaction that he has at the facility.”

Added a coworker: “Steve gives unselfishly of himself to our patients, staff and the community. He always arrives with a smile on his face and joy in his heart as he hands out candy and blessing prayer cards. Steve's presence at our facility has changed the atmosphere and strengthened our mission.”
