HICKOX – John Wilbur Wainright, 80 of Hickox, passed away Monday evening, June 30, 2025 at his residence after an extended illness.

Born in Hickox, Wainright’s parents were Jesse Olin Wainright and Allie Thrift Wainright. He is also preceded in death by several sibl ings, Calvin Wainright, Theo Wainwright, Florrie Wainright and Joe Wainright.

He worked for Saint Regis Papermill as a welder and attended Riverside Chapel Baptist Church. Wainright loved spending time with his family, especially at family get togethers, singing, playing music, Bluegrass music being one of his favorites, camping and being on his tractor. He was a people person who never met a stranger.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda Wainright of Hickox; a son and daughter- in-law, Darren Wainright (Amy) of McClenny, Fla.; a daughter, Tammy Wainright; two grandchildren, Shelby Davis (Chris) and Gracie Wainright; his sister, Dorothy Justice of Hickox; and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

A funeral service was held Thursday morning, July 3, 2025 Riverside Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Wainright and Rev. Tom Kennedy officiating.

Burial followed in Bethlehem Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Adam O’Berry, Steven Howard, Tom Barrett, Eric Prescott and Tim Wainright. Honorary pallbearers were Donald Lewis, Johnnie Crews and Lamar Thrift.

Arrangements were with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
