Knox
UNDATED — Donald Elwood Knox passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, July 2, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
Knox, the son of Muriel Jean Spikes and David Junior Knox, was born February 17,
1952.
He was previously married and had three children, Jeannie (James) Lattany, Gary Elwood Knox and Sharyn Washington. He has eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Knox worked in St. Marys for Gilman Paper Company until the mill shut down. He then went to work in Brunswick at International Auto Processing (IAP) for several years before retiring.
Some of Knox ’s hobbies included riding his motorcycle and camping with his brother, Joe. He loved working with his flowers in his yard and taking pictures of them to share with his family.
Knox would spend a lot of time on his back porch watching his birds on the feeders. He also started naming the birds as they landed on the feeders.
Dancing was another thing Knox loved to do, as well as attending his family’s gatherings. He also loved going down to Joe’s and sitting on his porch talking and rocking with his special friend Dorothy Morton (Mama).
Knox loved his Waynesville Missionary Baptist Church family, and couldn’t wait for Joe and Bonnie to pick him up to go. He wanted every day to be a Sunday. Knox said he just loved going and being greeted by everyone as the three of them came into the church.
Knox was pre-deceased by his mother and step-father, Muriel Jean and Bobby Spikes; father and step-mother, David ‘Junior’ Knox and Gertie Morgan Knox; brothers, David L. Knox, Sr., Gene Knox, Gerald Knox and step-brother, Lannis Maddox; sisters-in-law, Clarice Knox and Trixie Knox; nephew,; Christopher Horne and Joshua Knox; step-nephews, Eric Johns and Scotty Strickland; and by his special friend, (Mama) Dorothy Morton.
Survivors include his siblings, Wayne (Gail) Knox, Ricky Knox, Earl (Trina) Knox, Nelda (Robert) Manning, Ann (Dennis) Horne, Trisha (Alton) Trouille and Joe (Bonnie) Knox; sister-inlaw, Diane Knox; step-sisters, Brenda Johnson, Dell Canaday and Sabrina Flowers; also, several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and greatnephews.
A very special thank you to Joe and Bonnie for always taking great care of Knox. The family wishes to thank Hearth Hospice and Frye Funeral Home for their services.
A special thank you to Ann, Trisha, Wayne and Janet for helping take care of Knox and spending so much time with him.
A funeral service was held Monday, July 7, 2025 at at the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Ricky Knox, Rev. Randy Wainright and Rev. Monroe Gill officiating.
Burial followed in Smyrna Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mike Saxon, Mikey Saxon, Dylan Knox, Chase Knox, Cameron Lattany and Jarrett Knox.
Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Burcham, Ron Olmstead, Darl Keene and Joshua Simpson.
Arrangements were with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
