The Hoboken City Council discussed/voted on the following agenda items during the Tuesday, July 1 monthly meeting.
• Blight Ordinance review: Mayor Joey Crews tabled the Blight Ordinance review with City Attorney Adam Ferrell not present.
• Fencing prices for City Cemetery: Mayor Crews tabled the fencing prices for the City Cemetery.
“We’re still looking at options,” Crews told the council. “We have a few prices.”
• Palm Street resurfacing project: The council unanimously approved Douglas Asphalt Material, on the recommendation of Roberts Civil Engineering of St. Simons Island, with the resurfacing of Palm Street with a low bid of $38,750.38.
East Coast Asphalt of Douglas bid $42,000 with Thrift Brothers of Waycross bidding $11,000 more than Douglas Asphalt, according to the major.
“Roberts Civil Engineering reviewed the quotes for the project and recommends the project be awarded to Douglas Asphalt Materials as the lowest responsible bidder,” said Crews.
• Hoboken Police Department: Police Chief Sammy Hendrix gave the council an update for the month of June.
HPD officers conducted 126 traffic stops, wrote 76 citations and issued 50 verbal warnings. There were 56 tickets for Speeding, four for Expired Tag/No Tag, three for Possession of Marijuana less than an ounce, two for Driving Without License on Person, two for Handheld Wireless Device, two for Driving While Unlicensed, two for No Helmet/ Equipment Violation (lights), two for Too Fast For Conditions, and one each for Possession of Drug Related Objects and No Insurance.
Officers answered 33 public calls of which 15 were miscellaneous, responded to four Suspicious Person/Vechile, did four security checks, responded to two vehicle accidents, assisted two motorist, worked two annimal complaints, made one misdemeanor arrest, checked one residential alarm, responded to one mutual aid call and answered the call for a family violence.
The chief said the Hoboken Police Department will hold its annual Safety Day on Saturday, September 20.
• Hoboken VFD: Mayor Crews handled the monthly report for the fire department in the absence of Fire Chief Ricky Floyd.
According to the paperwork, the department responded to 14 calls in June. There two each of a medical call, brush fire and structure fire.
There was an accident with no injuries and another with injuries, one lift assistance, one call for smoke showing, one vehicle fire, one Code Red, one tree down and one undefined.
• Mobile Home Park: Mayor Crews informed council members of an amendment for the Mobile Home Park account.
“We’re going to transfer $20,000 to the Hoboken to the Community Center account for the purchase of a generator only costing $15,000. The purchase of generator was approved during our June 6 meeting.”
The amendment was unanimously approved.
• Hoboken Community Center: The mayor updated the council on the installation of new glass doors and several other days along with fixing some of the locks.
• Office Administration: Mayor Crews informed the council they would be setting a date to discuss the 2026 budget after hearing from the county about the millage rate.
“Ms. Linda still doesn’t have anything back, so we can’t do a whole lot until we get that information,” said Crews.
