Investigators working new lead in Zirkle homicide

Body found nearly three years ago

It has been almost three years since a Waycross man was found murdered near Zirkle in Pierce County, but investigators have a new lead in the case.

Dale Austin Duncan, 21, of Waycross was found dead on Zirkle Road in the eastern portion of the county Tuesday morning, August 10, 2022.

Sheriff Ramsey Bennett confirmed last week that investigators have received a new tip in the unresolved case.

“We have a new lead that we are currently checking out,” he said.

Bennett declined to give additional details and also declined to say whether he thinks the new lead will result in a resolution to the case.

Duncan was found on timber company property off of Zirkle Road. The body was discovered in a wooded area near the road, but not close to the boat landing or the steel dam on the Little Satilla River there.

Duncan

The State Medical Examiner’s Office determined Duncan’s death was by homicide.

Duncan had earlier been reported missing from his home in Ware County.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Unit at (912) 807-2677 or the tip line at (912) 807-TIPS (8477).
