A Democratic special primary election run-off for seats on a public service commission will take place Tuesday, July 15.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the county’s two precincts, Eagle Station, 3507 Williams Street, Patterson and the Pierce County Gym, 705 College Avenue, Blackshear.
Advanced voting will begin Monday, July 7 and continue through Friday, July 11. Voting will be from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., at the County Courthouse Annex, 312 Nichols Street, Elections Office.
Turnout is expected to be poor. Only 22 Democrats cast ballots in the June 17 primary elections. Voters must vote Democrat to participate in the election run-off.
Pierce County has more than 13,300 registered voters.
Waites, a former Atlanta City Council member and former state legislator, received 46% in the primary June 17, while Hubbard, founder of the nonprofit, Georgia Center for Energy Solutions, came in second with 33.3%. Robert Jones, a former utility executive, placed third in the race with 20.7%.
However, since no candidate in the race received more than 50% of the vote, Waites and Hubbard will face off in a runoff July 15.
Locally, Waites received 11 votes and Peter Hubbard and Robert Jones received three votes each. Hubbard finished second state-wide and will be in a run-off with Waites.
The winner will face Republican incumbent Fitz Johnson in the November 4 General Election.
Johnson ran unopposed for the Republican nomination.
