Memorial Satilla Health recently led a comprehensive medical surge training exercise alongside the Region M Healthcare Coalition, The goal was to boost the local community's readiness for large-scale emergencies. The training was held at South Georgia State College’s Waycross Campus.
The drill exercise simulated a plane crash with dozens of patients experiencing varying degrees of trauma. The challenging scenario allowed first responders, local and state agencies, regional hospitals, healthcare facilities and other coalition members to practice their organization’s specific emergency operation plans and procedures.
The exercise proved invaluable for identifying different areas where response strategies can be enhanced and also as a way to take inventory of area resources available within the local community during such an event.
